Le St. Nicolas a visité....

Le 6 décembre, c'est la fête de St. Nicolas...Students had made little shoes, and as is customary, St. Nicolas left bonbons for everyone.

(We all loved Guillaume's giant shoe, and used it as a serving bowl;-)

About St. Nicolas

St. Nicolas around the world

Belgian Waffles, Schtroumpfs, and more !

As a culminating activity to a unit of study on French speaking Belgium and the European Union , students were treated to a classroom Waffle Bar set up by A Taste of Belgium (a local Cincinnati company owned by a French speaking Belgian from Liege, Belgium). We LOVED the waffles, and students were very deserving of the treat...They worked hard and were successful in meeting the objectives of this content based unit, all in the target language!

Having learned all about Peyo and his Schtroumpfs (Belgian creator of the (French speaking!) smurfs, a couple of students even came to class dressed as these charming characters;-) See our "Belgique Page" for links to E.U., art, music, legends, grammar and more that we covered in our
unit.

Some Student Assignments and Projects during the 1st Semester

French I students enjoyed creating and labeling "monsters" as they learned vocabulary for body parts.

French I students also created name poems while studying adjectives, and worked in groups to create a family identity, which they then explained on individual posters.

French II students created self portraits and descriptions.

French II Power-Points
French II students also prepared power points about the various regions in France to serve as visual aides for their oral reports. View the power points here.

Celebrations - National French Week and La Toussaint

Although the week nearly slipped by us (and we have deferred a planned trivia contest and more until a bit later this year), we did celebrate with cake and dancing during lunchtime, last week !

Savez-vous danser le Logobitombo? French IV and V students learned this dance while on an Immersion Day Field Trip to Wright State University in early November(more about that day later)
and graciously taught it to other French students during our lunchtime party.

Students researched some famous French people and created tombstones in their honor as a celebration of La Toussaint (November 1).
